The Kingdom of the Netherlands Embassy is a big historicistic urban villa in the green residential zone of Homansbyen in the centre of Oslo. The area was built at the end of the last century, according to an integral urban regulation, with wide zones of front gardens between the houses and the streets. Rich greenery and gardens, as well as restrained monumentality of the free-standing architecture give a very specific urban character to the whole zone, which is therefore protected as the cultural monument of the city of Oslo. The architectural expression of the Embassy building is characterised by the massive, representative front façade, with a terrace and loggias open to the private garden. However, the main entrance to the villa cannot be seen from the street and it belongs to the informal complex of the back-yard architecture.
